I know right? Like a messenger programs low popularity with one person at one time is that important...lol ANYHOW

I tried unpacking it manually, and disabling my Virus software, and I got it done that way... Still can't get AIM to sign in though... Says my password is invalid. Is this just because AIM still doesn't play fair? My password works everywhere else. This is the same beef I had with it for the last two years!!! Trillian hate's me ::

Sounds to me like you have a huge firewall/proxy issue. You should never have to unpack it manually to get it to work. Build 122 of ver 3.1 has a fix of some aim/icq issues so you may what to make sure you have the latest download.

Lol, Not the first time I've had to do it to Trillian though... And it seems to be the only program that goes that way. I don't get it either, but yes, I have the one thats available on Cnet right now. If I can get aim to work, I'll be ok with it

I have used Trillian since the beginning more or less (I hate having all the stand-alone take up extra room) and although I think it is getting a little bloated as of the v3.0 I still think it is a good piece of software that saves cpu power. I have also never encountered any of the bugs or problems that you have and have it installed on about 20 computers of various setups.

Agree there, but I feel it improved from version 2.

You can get rid of the bloat but unloading any of the plugins that you don't use...thus reducing the amount of memory you use. I don't use it for IRC or jabber or rendezvous so I don't have those plugins installed. Plus I have no use for the video/audio conferencing so I got rid of those dll files. All told I reduced my memory footprint to about 4 mb at any one time and that is with the main window open, aim/msn/y! signed in and conversations going in each protocol.

Plus don't use a graphic happy skin.

Hazylunarrain: It seriously sounds as though you're having proxy server problems. What ISP do you have? Do you have a hardware firewall/router installed?

I guess the green smileys are going to haunt us forever.

I use alltel DSL. It seems that the program is working ok now that I put everything in it's place piece by piece. Don't know for sure why the hell it always happens only to Trillian though. I just wish I could get bloody AIM to work... Tried everything, even completly shutting off all security, etc. All I can say is I hate the devil(Windows)lol. If anyone could come up with the whole "password not valid please click here to try again" popup, I'll call it gooood...::

Well Hazy, I finally did it..I installed Trillian.

I use Nortons Internet Security Suite "05" No probs there at all.

It took minutes to Download and install. (DSL)

It uses ALOT less resources than the other IM clients do (MSN, AIM etc..etc)

I have to say all in all it was a very "painless" installation, and a breeze to set-up..AIM Yahoo and MSN seemed to configure without any trouble at all.

I am actually pretty impressed with it..

Im sure this doesnt make you feel any better about it, but it has to be something in your machine thats causing you the trouble..

Zero.

I'm really embarrasse by what I'm about to say, so don't be too harsh with me guys.....

I finally realize what my problem with the install was. Theres only on ething it could be as my system is EXACTLY the was it was (the others too)...
The only thing I can think of thats left that it could have been was several bad downloads. I dunno if I caught their servers at a tricky time or what, but I have had it working for about 2 days now no problem. Dunno how else to explain it.

At any rate, It seems to be working fine now so all in all not a bad program
